VADIM MARKEVICH

Vadim Markevich was born in 1969 in Riga, Latvia. He graduated from the Lyceum of Arts and Restoration in St. Petersburg, and has exhibited since 1994 in the State Museum of Modern Arts, Minsk. He went on to study at the Royal College in London in 1999, where he received an expert assessment of his work by Sotheby's.

The artist describes his work as neoclassical; a return to the more traditional style of painting.  In recent years this painstakingly detailed technique has become rare, limited to highly skilled artists such as Fedotov. Markevich rejects the idea that his paintings are surrealist, considering instead that each contains a precisely formatted rational and philosophical grain. This is a talented artist who presents his vision through our perception of beauty- encouraging us to listen to the ideas behind the visual, inviting a more personal response.
